With a calm and reassuring style that is unmatched by any other art instructor, Jerry guides students through fine-art techniques that can be practiced at home. What separates Jerry's new series from his older work is the culmination of his entire career to date (over 30 years) brought to the viewer in the form of his best work ever.

Big Red, Part 1
Acrylic painting, 16x20 Horizontal. In this opening segment, Jerry discusses his reference material and how he goes about designing the composition. He then takes his soft vine charcoal and makes a rough sketch of the basic elements of the painting including the horse's head. Then begins to paint the sky, clouds, and distant trees. He finishes by underpainting the ground area around the horse. The he explains what he will be doing in next week's episode.

Big Red, Part 2
In this segment, Jerry shows how to finish detailing and highlighting the ground area around the horse and any unfinished background Now he explains the process for underpainting the horse's body. He shows the proper mixtures for underpainting a reddish, colored animal. He then explains which brushes work best for underpainting and finishes this segment by underpainting the darker areas of the body and head.

Big Red, Part 3
In episode 3, Jerry explains different types of techniques for detailing the horse and how different brushes create different effects. Now he shows how to mix the proper colors for detailing the horse and which brushes work best for this particular application. He then finishes this segment by explaining what he will be doing in the next episode to finalize detailing the horse and painting in the fence.

Then he shows how to paint in the sky and miscellaneous trees behind the house to help create depth. He finishes by explaining the process of underpainting the roof and shadows of the house.

Then he takes the soft vine charcoal and makes a very rough sketch of the main components of the composition. Now he shows how to paint the semi-stormy sky and explains the significance of the color scheme and color mixes he will be using. He finishes by painting in the first layers of distant mountains and adding first minor highlights.

In the second episode, Jerry continues underpainting the mountains. Next Jerry shows how to underpaint the water. Now he shows how to underpaint the meadow and then finishes up by showing how to begin highlighting the meadow.

Then talks about the reference material and how to compose a painting from memory. Then he shows how to create the proper underpainting mixture for the shadow of the snow and how to properly apply it. Then he finishes by showing how to dry-brush in phase one of the contour of the snowdrifts and create the proper composition.

Hide and Seek, Part 2
In this episode, Jerry continues showing how to form and highlight the snowdrifts using brighter glazes of white. He then shows how to use smaller brushes to highlight the raised areas. He then shows how to add touches of orange to the white to create a soft bright highlight for the tops of the drifts. He now finishes by taking the # 10 chisel-edge brush and underpaints some of the main clumps of grass.

In this episode, Jerry continues underpainting the base grass clumps. Then he shows how to use the #6 chisel-edge brush to paint in the taller, thicker weeds. Then shows how to seat the grass clumps by drifting snow at the base. Then he adds the taller skinny weeds with the #4 sable script brush. Now he shows how to paint in the bright sunlit weeds. Then he finishes by using the #4 round sable brush to paint in the extreme bright snowdrift at the base of the clumps.

In the final episode of this series, Jerry shows how to underpaint the rabbit. Then shows how to detail and highlight the rabbit with subtle tones to make him appear hidden.
